Yes, some tests are timed.
The PERT is untimed; the average amount of time to complete the exam is 3 hours.
The TABE is timed for a total of 90 minutes.
The Adult Education TABE is timed for 125 minutes.
GED is a two day test, 4 hrs. each day.
TEAS is 4 hrs. .
CJBAT is 3 hours.
CLEP exams are 90 minutes or longer, depending on the test.
2.Do I have to schedule to take a test?
All tests are done on a walk-in basis on the Daytona Beach, Deland and Deltona campuses (except IT certification exams). Due to limited seating, appointments are suggested at the New Smyrna-Edgewater and Flagler-Palm Coast campuses.
3.What items are prohibited while testing?
To maintain overall testing security, items such as, but not limited to, cell phones, IPOD’s, cameras, and head coverings are not permitted.
4.How long does it take to get the results of a test?
Test results for PERT, TABE, TEAS, CLEP (except English Comp. with Essay), CJBAT, and IT Certification are available immediately upon completion of exam. Instructor makeup exams are returned to the instructors.
5.What makes me exempt from taking a placement test?
You may be exempted from taking the placement tests if you have qualifying SAT and/or ACT scores, are transferring credits into Daytona State, have qualifying IB credit , AP credit, CLEP credit or if you already have been awarded a degree. Please check with the Advising Office.
6.Is there a fee for sending exam results to another college?
Yes, if you are taking an exam at Daytona State for another institution, you will be charged a $30 non-student fee per exam. If a student takes a placement test at Daytona State College and wishes to send the results to another college/university they should request a transcript be sent from the Records office.
7.Can you proctor an exam from another college?
We offer proctoring services for exams from other colleges. There is a $30 proctoring fee per exam.
8.Am I able to earn college credit by testing?
Yes, credit can be earned through Assessment of Prior Learning Experience (APLE) and/or the College Level Experience Program (CLEP.)
9.What is the eligibility for the CLEP/APLE?
We are an open test site for CLEP; anyone may walk-in and test with us.
APLE is for DSC students only who are currently enrolled in a degree or vocational program. Credit must be applicable to their program.
10.Will APLE//CLEP test results transfer to other institutions?
Students are advised to check with the institution to which they are transferring.
11.Where do I make up a test for my class?
You can make up a test for your class in Assessment Services. Not all instructors allow make-up exams, so you must make arrangements with your instructor.
12.Can I retake a placement test?
Eligibility for placement test retakes is determined by the Academic Advising Department.
13.Does Daytona State College offer the FCAT?
Yes, Daytona State College offers the computerized FCAT on the Daytona and Deland campuses twice per year. Check our website for the registration deadlines.
14.How do I sign up for the GED exam?
To sign up for the GED exam you must go to Assessment Services on any campus to fill out an application and pay for the exam prior to the deadline for your test date. You must be 18 years old, bring a valid government-issued picture ID and $70. For test dates and times, go here.
The CASAS is the placement test which non-English speaking students take for placement into English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes.
The CJBAT is a 2 ½ hr., computerized exam which measures skills that are needed by people in the Law Enforcement or Corrections fields. The areas of measurement covered in the CJ BAT include written comprehension, written expression, oral expression, inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, information ordering, spatial orientation, and visualization. The fee for CJBAT is $40.
TABE is a test that covers Reading, Language and Math. It is administered on all Daytona State Campuses.
18.Where do I go for Information Technology Certification?
Information Technology Certification exams are given on the Deland campus, building 7 rooms 117. Call 386-785-2029 or 386-785-2223 for more information.
19.Where can I take the TEAS exam?
The TEAS 5.0 is offered on all campuses. Testing can be done on a walk-in basis on the Daytona, Deland and Deltona campuses. Appointments are needed on the New Smyrna – Edgewater and the Flagler – Palm Coast campuses.
