Calendar of events at Daytona State announced for March 2012

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Feb. 10, 2012) - Daytona State College presents the following calendar of events for March 2012.

Events are open to the public and free of charge, unless otherwise noted.

March 1 – 30 (closed March 12 - 16), 11:15. a.m. – noon (Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays)
Aqua Aerobics “Stretch & Twist”
This water exercise program provides a total body workout for those of moderate to advanced fitness levels. Classes include exercises for aerobic conditioning, flexibility, and strength training. Aqua Aerobics offers a safe and refreshing way to exercise for all ages. Cost $3 per class.

Lifeguarding Couse
Whether you want to pursue as a season or career opportunity, the America Red Cross certified lifeguarding course offered at Daytona State College provides the necessary training to help individuals develop rescue skills and be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED. Participants will learn how to prevent accidents through knowledge of lifeguarding, proper use of equipment and realization of responsibilities. The course begins on Thursday, March 1 at 5 p.m. with a pre-test activity in order to access ability to swim 300 yards and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool using a surface dive, four-hours of instruction immediately follow. The course continues on Friday, March 2, from 5:30 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and concludes on Monday, March 5 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Course fee is $200 (discounted to $100 for Daytona State College students) and requires a $50 non-refundable deposit (due with registration by Feb. 24).

Sculpt & Tone
Classes that use a variety of resistance training equipment to strengthen and tone the entire body and improve flexibility. Instructor: Deborah Stelling. Mondays & Wednesdays, $30 for six-week session.

Swim Break 2012
Bring your kids (ages 8-13) to the Daytona State College Aquatic Center for a full-week of fun, games, exercise and swim stroke improvement. Under the direction of a US swimming coach, kids will work on improving their storkes, as well as play water polo, bingo, basketball, kickball and more. Cost: $100 for the full-week, $50 for mornings only (8:30 a.m. - noon), or $25 for daily participation. Multiple child and other discounts apply.

Join Physical Therapist Cheryl Wynn for a one-hour workshop to learn how to perform exercises anywhere with little or no equipment, as well as safe exercises that anyone can do. Cost: $5.
