Becca joined the faculty of DSC in June of 2010, in order to begin the Writing Center, after completing her PhD in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Louisville. Her academic interests include writing center theory and practice, creative writing pedagogy, and multi-media composing. When she’s not at work, she indulges in reading (poetry, flash fiction, and sci-fi/fantasy), watching British comedies, blogging, creating mixed-media art, kayaking, and doting on her menagerie of pets.

Jenna is a proud Golden Knight. She received her BA and MA degrees from the University of Central Florida, and devoted the majority of her Master’s education to learning about writing center theory and developing her tutoring skills. She worked for three years at the BCC/UCF Writing Center as a consultant and, upon graduation from UCF in August of 2010, she was delighted to find employment with Daytona State College as the Associate Director of the brand new Writing Center. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, cooking, listening to live music, and rooting for the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Orlando Magic.

Chris joined the Writing Center staff in August 2010 as a professional tutor following three years as a peer tutor at the Stetson University Writing Center. His academic interests include composition and rhetoric, American cultural studies, British lit, and political science – for which he earned dual BA degrees in American Studies and English Composition and Rhetoric. When not at work in the DSC Writing Center, Chris splits his time as the Development Director for Florida High School Model United Nations, Inc. (a not-for-profit educational organization currently in its 32nd year of operation) and as a reporter at the Kennedy Space Center covering the Space Shuttle Program and various other NASA and space related endeavors. His literature interests include the works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Douglas Adams. He is also an avid Science Fiction and British comedy fan

Patrick joined the Writing Center in September of 2010. Before coming to Daytona State College, Patrick earned his BA in English from Western Michigan University where he also spent two years teaching basic composition and tutoring in the university’s writing center. In the future, Patrick hopes to attend graduate school and obtain degrees in Rhetoric and Composition as well as Cultural Theory, which encompass his primary academic interests. When not working in the CWC, Patrick enjoys playing video games (both classic and current), watching movies, studying cultural theory, and intertwining the three together whenever possible.

John was welcomed to the Writing Center crew as a professional tutor in January of 2011. He earned his BA from Western Michigan University in December of 2009. As a Bronco, he studied a wide variety of interests including Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, Secondary Education, Theatre and History. While pursuing his studies at WMU John worked variously as an Elementary school reading tutor, amusement rides maintenance technician, scenery and props construction worker, University English instructor, and writing center consultant. In the future John hopes to earn a Masters and Doctorate degree in Rhetoric and Composition studies. In his free time, John enjoys pursuing his personal writing, watching film and theatre, rooting for his Michigan sports teams and reading a wide variety of nonfiction subjects.

Maia Renee Harrison received her B.A. in English from Stetson University in May 2011. While at Stetson, she worked as a tutor in the Stetson Writing Center and served as the editor-in-chief of Touchstone Literary Journal. Her plans for the future include continuing to work as a learning specialist at the Daytona State Writing Center and writing dozens of cheesy romance novels to pay for graduate school. In her down time, she enjoys cooking, rollerblading, and reading poetry. Maia has a pet ball python named Oliver who likes poetry also.

Lauren joined the Writing Center staff in September 2011. She earned her B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Florida. While at UF, she attended Florida football games in The Swamp, played intramural soccer and volleyball, and pledged Alpha Phi Omega Co-Ed Service Fraternity. After graduating, Lauren taught in Central Florida and Central New Jersey. Combining her love of travel and interest in languages, she also taught English in France and Italy. In her free time, Lauren likes to dream of future travels, watch comedy T.V., play word games, and read (sci-fi/fantasy and contemporary non-fiction).
