Where is the Writing Center?
You can find the Writing Center on the Daytona campus in Education Hall (bldg 200), room 107 (to the right of the manatee fountain). You can also connect with a Writing Center Learning Specialist over the internet at the ASCs in Deland, Deltona, New Smyrna Beach, and Flagler/Palm Coast.
Can I come in if I’m just getting started and haven’t written anything yet?
Absolutely. In fact, it's recommended—that way you can get feedback on your paper as you write it.
What should I bring with me to the Writing Center?
Bring any assignment sheets, notes, or research for the project, along with anything you've already written. Don’t worry if you’re still planning the project and haven’t written anything yet—the Writing Center can help with that too.
What kinds of writing can I bring?
Any kind at all. Information about what your goals are and who you're writing to will make the process a snap. Assignment sheets and job postings are great examples of what to bring.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Appointments are recommended but not required. If you make an appointment, you’ll be guaranteed someone available to work with you when you’re ready to come in (please call us if you are running late for an appointment or we may give your appointment to someone else).
I’m a staff or faculty member—can I bring my writing to the Writing Center?
Absolutely. Any member of the Daytona State College or University of Central Florida community can use the Writing Center.
Can I have a session from off campus?
Yes. You can have a full consultations with a Writing Center Learning Specialist from any computer with an internet connection. For the easiest experience, visit the ASC at the Deland, Deltona, New Smyrna Beach, or Flagler/Palm Coast campuses for more information, or call 386-506-3297 with your questions.
Can I send in or drop off a paper?
You'll get the best help by working with someone from the Writing Center on your project. If you only take classes online, call 386-506-3297 to make a virtual appointment from an ASC or your home.
Can I schedule my appointments online?
Yes, through FalconNet—however, it's MUCH EASIER for you call 386-506-3297 and have someone walk you through the appointment-making process the first time. Once you know it, it’s easy as pie—but the first time is a bit confusing.
I noticed my teacher volunteering in the writing center—can I come see him/her there?
Faculty volunteers work with students other than their own while in the Writing Center. Visiting their offices is the best way to meet with professors, and you can see them in the ASC if necessary.
What’s the difference between the Writing Center and the ASC?
The Writing Center helps with writing or communication through one-on-one, 50-minute sessions. The ASC, on the other hand, helps with study skills and other subjects besides writing. Both the Writing Center and ASC offer workshops for students and faculty.
