The Daytona State College Campus Safety mission includes the commitment to providing quality security and safety services to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors who utilize our institution.
A crucial aspect of fulfilling this commitment is the ability to quickly and effectively notify students, faculty, staff, and visitors of danger and to provide clear, intelligible information and instructions during an emergency.
Since the Virginia Tech tragedy of April, 2007, the challenge of enhancing emergency notification at colleges and universities has been a top priority in subsequent strategies to improve campus safety.
This is evident in the findings and recommendations of virtually all major studies including the following, (on which Daytona State College has based many of its own critical incident response strategies):
- The Report to the President on Virginia Tech Tragedy
- Final Report of the Florida Gubernatorial Task Force on Campus Safety.
Daytona State College also recognizes that the key elements of a mass notification system are the people who use it. These technological improvements have been accompanied by the implementation of new training and coordination efforts to ensure qualified personnel are always available and prepared to effectively use each of the Daytona State College emergency mass notification systems.
Daytona State College’s emergency Mass Notification System consists of various capabilities designed to create a dynamic system with the capacity to serve our specific needs and adjust to unforeseen circumstances.
