TABE is an instrument used to determine a student's readiness to enter certain programs. TABE measures basic reading, mathematics, and language skills. TABE is not a pass/fail test.
Assistance with TABE preparation, before and/or after taking the test, is available in the Vocational Preparatory Instruction lab located in Daytona State College's Academic Support Services area.

Preparing for the TABE
- Arrangements for disabled students are available.
- Testing usually takes about 2 hours.
- All questions are multiple choice and scanned answer sheets are used.No calculators, dictionaries, notes, etc. can be used for the test.
- You are allowed to take the TABE as many times as needed. Students who receive instruction from the VPI program and obtain a referral can retake all or part of the test whenever VPI staff determines readiness.
- All test scores (SAT, ACT, CPT, and TABE) are only valid for two years from the date you take the test, even if you never enroll in courses at Daytona State College.
Assessment Services is responsible for monitoring test sessions. Daytona State College does not tolerate cheating nor disruptive behavior. If an examinee is suspected of cheating, the test session will be terminated and voided and the examinee will be asked to leave the area. The incident will be reported to college officials and disciplinary action may be taken.
